Final Cliff Texture

Welp I did not post the past couple of days because I have the opportunity to work in a group on another project and I have been having crazy issues with unreal 4 and tessellation. For the Art Station contest there is no limitations so I wanted to use tessellation with a baked height map but sadly it would flicker like crazy. After a couple of days of playing around I was able to get it to work but only a little bit. Its not really worth it so I decided to sculpt the terrain instead. I Still have not painted over the rock but I am really happy how they baked out. I am going to make the waterfall then work on the ground terrain and add some individual rocks. After that is all finish the scene should look really nice and I can focus on painting and putting more design on the bridge.

Gem Sword

Before I start working I have to warm up. I usually start with a grey scale in Photoshop and dont really finish its just to get my mind spinning. A little bit ago I was really enjoying what I was drawing and decided to just keep going with it. This sword is the end product, I had a lot of fun making this from concept to finish.

Cliff Testing

I have been back and forth on how I wanted to make my rocks for the cliff next to my path. So today I have been playing around in the material editor trying to figure out what I like. So far I am very happy, but I want to do more with this texture. Adding a detailed normal map and spending more time on painting I think by tomorrow I will have it finished and ready to post an update on ArtStation.

I made it rain

Today I made rain, it was alot of fun and its not completely done but I am happy with what I have so far. I also made a new ground texture I am still up on how the ground was going to look, grassy or barren. I am leaning toward making it filled with grass and have a small amount of dirt on the side of the stream and a little on the path.

I was looking at my material and thought I would show you my cliff rock master material. I am using an instance material so I can have multiple rocks as for now I have only 2 but am hoping to use 4 or 5.

Pushing Scene For Art Contents.

Hello, today I added some color and Zbrushed some stone. I also added some rocks but I made my Edge map and AO map to high, should be an easy fix when I start painting over everything. Next is to make some more rocks and finish the basic bridge. I started this without a concept because I wanted to have fun with it, but that means I need to start basic and add on. After I get some more rocks and finish the bridge floor, I will start adding in dirt and grass. Last I will add rain and replace the placeholder water. Then we can start adding onto this pathway and really work with smaller detail.

Contest Entry

I was watching Lord of the Rings and started having fun changing the bridge idea into a bridge under a small water fall. Now I am thinking we have a large gate into a underground city at the end. Usually I don't change ideas but Lord of the Rings inspires me to make stone structures, I am not to sure why. soon I will put some color and just keep pushing until the piece is done. I saw a 3D contest and the theme is "the journey". I think that theme fits well with what we have and I decided to enter in the contest wish me luck.

March 2016

Started this month thinking about vertex painting and z app, so today I decided to test it out. I love z app, I connected zbrush to photoshop and was able to paint on the high poly. I used vertex painting for the block in of colors. I only did one side but I think this will be the start of my new work flow. Sometime this week I plan on remaking the bridge with this method of painting I think it will come out nice. I use xnormal to bake the high polys vertex color.
