Pushed the pillar further.

I was playing around and decided to make a floor for the pillar. Then thought of its function. decided on a air conditioner. I wanted it to be on full blast so I decided to make the path way rocks with lava underneath it. Now I get to focus on some frost alphas and fog. Then I will think of making the composition and maybe break one of the pillars having the frost ball in the pillar explode frost one directions. who knows this started as a warm up.

Coming Back!

Its been a while since I posted, been very busy but I am back.making 3D Art. There is a couple of projects I have been thinking about for a long time. I would really like to make another texture pack for the unreal marketplace. I really enjoy tillable textures and I really enjoy seeing how people use them differently. The next ideas I have been having is a couple of environments. My next post I will get more into those.

For a warm up and to get "back into it". I decided to make a pillar, I like the way its going. I want to put ice in the middle and make it like an air conditioner.

Warm up Gem

So far my new warm up is feeling good. I Have been working with a group on a game so my time has been limited but I just made a new schedule so I can start streaming again. When I was streaming me doing art I felt a sense of responsibility to the few people watching, to show them something great and to get it done. So starting today at 10 pm to 1 or 2 Am I will be on Twitch doing some art. Now hopefully I can stick to that schedule and still get my other responsibility done.

Again Thank you all that have followed me on Twitch and who have been reading my blog. Both are to get my self out there and to get feedback and so far you guys have been great cheers.

Edit: I forgot to mention I was locked out of my Twitch account so I cant start streaming until Twitch support contacts me back shouldn't be to long ill post when im able to get back on. cheers.

New warm up method..

So usually I warm up with a 20 min sculpt. I start with a ball and it can turn into anything, its just to get my brain working. After a good week of thinking I've decided to push my warm ups just a little further and to start cataloging them. Now I will sculpt, then render and paint over. I believe this will not just help me wake up and get in the right mind set, but to help me push my shapes, textures and concept art. Number 1.

Some of these ill do in a couple of days but having more content to put up on my blog is really neat. I am having a lot of fun with this blog and I've already seen my art grow from some of the earlier post. It gives me a big boost of confidence, as an artist its hard to tell when you grow and this blog visually shows me. For those of you who come by and read these I hope you enjoy the blog and thank you for the support.

Edit: Quick note I received a email from unreal and we are moving to the next step for my textures I put on the market place. This dose not mean its been accepted but the fact it passed the first stage is very exciting.

Finishes unreal market place

I took my 9 favorite textures and pushed them as far as i could. i turned them into unreal marketplace last night. this is my first unreal market place item so i'm fairly nervous but i hope this become a regular thing where i can place materials for people to make there games. Next on my list is to work on a boat scene in the sky and maybe some material tutorials on my youtube.

I put vertex painting on for material break up. this way my tilable textures can be used in many different ways.

Working on materials and a scene

Hello, I have been having a bunch of fun working with a group on a game. On my free time though I have been finding my self working on materials and a fun scene that has been in my brain for a while. all of these are WIPs but I use this blog to keep me on track and because I have a memory problem from an injury over seas this also helps me see things I have tried and maybe forgotten. I was making a bridge scene for the journey art contest but with my freelance work my time was limited so I dropped the project and used the cliff texture in my materials for unreal. It seems that some of the professionals in my group are on crunch on there jobs so this gives me some time to finish these materials and post them.

Here is the first pass of the scene, this is pretty bare and basic but its the start of a really neat scene Ive been thinking off. in the back i want a rock with a dangled rope. The clouds, I hate to be honest but the swirly design I think works well just need to remodel and texture these maybe just a retexture. The boat itself was originally going to be what you see but im heading back to the silhouettes to get a really fun design. I feel like it should steal all of the attention and as of now it dosnt. So we will see how this goes

I will do better on my blog and start up twitch again it seems doing these force me to do more work then I usually put in and I think its a great tool to meet new like minded people.

Final Cliff Texture

Welp I did not post the past couple of days because I have the opportunity to work in a group on another project and I have been having crazy issues with unreal 4 and tessellation. For the Art Station contest there is no limitations so I wanted to use tessellation with a baked height map but sadly it would flicker like crazy. After a couple of days of playing around I was able to get it to work but only a little bit. Its not really worth it so I decided to sculpt the terrain instead. I Still have not painted over the rock but I am really happy how they baked out. I am going to make the waterfall then work on the ground terrain and add some individual rocks. After that is all finish the scene should look really nice and I can focus on painting and putting more design on the bridge.

Gem Sword

Before I start working I have to warm up. I usually start with a grey scale in Photoshop and dont really finish its just to get my mind spinning. A little bit ago I was really enjoying what I was drawing and decided to just keep going with it. This sword is the end product, I had a lot of fun making this from concept to finish.

Cliff Testing

I have been back and forth on how I wanted to make my rocks for the cliff next to my path. So today I have been playing around in the material editor trying to figure out what I like. So far I am very happy, but I want to do more with this texture. Adding a detailed normal map and spending more time on painting I think by tomorrow I will have it finished and ready to post an update on ArtStation.

I made it rain

Today I made rain, it was alot of fun and its not completely done but I am happy with what I have so far. I also made a new ground texture I am still up on how the ground was going to look, grassy or barren. I am leaning toward making it filled with grass and have a small amount of dirt on the side of the stream and a little on the path.

I was looking at my material and thought I would show you my cliff rock master material. I am using an instance material so I can have multiple rocks as for now I have only 2 but am hoping to use 4 or 5.

Pushing Scene For Art Contents.

Hello, today I added some color and Zbrushed some stone. I also added some rocks but I made my Edge map and AO map to high, should be an easy fix when I start painting over everything. Next is to make some more rocks and finish the basic bridge. I started this without a concept because I wanted to have fun with it, but that means I need to start basic and add on. After I get some more rocks and finish the bridge floor, I will start adding in dirt and grass. Last I will add rain and replace the placeholder water. Then we can start adding onto this pathway and really work with smaller detail.

Contest Entry

I was watching Lord of the Rings and started having fun changing the bridge idea into a bridge under a small water fall. Now I am thinking we have a large gate into a underground city at the end. Usually I don't change ideas but Lord of the Rings inspires me to make stone structures, I am not to sure why. soon I will put some color and just keep pushing until the piece is done. I saw a 3D contest and the theme is "the journey". I think that theme fits well with what we have and I decided to enter in the contest wish me luck.

March 2016

Started this month thinking about vertex painting and z app, so today I decided to test it out. I love z app, I connected zbrush to photoshop and was able to paint on the high poly. I used vertex painting for the block in of colors. I only did one side but I think this will be the start of my new work flow. Sometime this week I plan on remaking the bridge with this method of painting I think it will come out nice. I use xnormal to bake the high polys vertex color.

Blog Feb 2016

Welp I took a step back today and just decided to sculpt and zpaint.

Today we worked on the shell of the bridge. I am going to redo this I really don't like how thin it is. To save time I am going to keep the texture and make low poly planks. After we do the roof we will be working on the wood railing to wrap up all the wood materials. Then we will be working on the rocks I want to put in the river and some in the background.

So far I like the texture density and the direction the color and shape is going. It needs more painting and different colors. next ill work on the roofing and then do a final paint over and add some colors to everything.

We started putting color in the scene, I think what I am going to do now is make this a start menu scene. At the end we will put a play button and start thinking of a good name of a game this would be in.

Blog Jan 16

Had a lot of fun streaming today. With the inspiration of the 1800s Chicago fire we made a block In of what we thought would look neat. I am excited to push this further.

Hey guys I started streaming on twitch and I will be posting on here weekly from now on. this will be for January.
